A word of caution. Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.
SharePoint Designer is a powerful tool for certain things, but it should not be the only weapon in your arsenal when taking your SharePoint solution to the next level.
Ask your SharePoint consultant and/or your internal SharePoint governance team for guidance on the appropriate uses of SharePoint Designer for your specific solution.
